“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardor and attended to with diligence.” — Abigail Adams (1744-1818)
I’ve always loved books: fiction, nonfiction, educational, and scientific. Whether printed and bound or downloaded digitally, good books are steps — and sometimes whole journeys — on the path to greater knowledge.
I began my career as a legal copy editor in New York City. Over the next decade I expanded my skills, working as a production editor, managing editor, development editor, and senior editor for publishers of medical, nursing, and allied health textbooks and trade publications.
In 1996 I launched my own business, providing freelance editing services to a diverse clientele. Since then, I’ve worked with leading academic publishers, authors, and vendors to produce books, articles, educational materials, and other specialized content in print and digital formats that meet the needs of their respective audiences.
In 2016, I joined Springer Publishing as a content development specialist, evaluating and editing medical, nursing, and behavioral science books and digital spinoffs. More recently, at WebMD/Medscape, I expanded my portfolio to include continuing education (CME/CNE/CPE) programs and promotional materials.
Ten years on, I’ve circled back to my freelance roots, editing medical, scientific, and environmental books and media, and collaborating on documentary films produced by San Francisco-based KazzaDrask Media. What motivates me now? Finding ways to use my skills to support education on climate science and action to address the crises facing our warming world.
Throughout this journey, I’ve worked to expand my knowledge and editing skills as a member of professional societies, in classes and seminars at the NYU School of Professional Studies, and by making use of the extraordinary resources available through the U.S. public library system.
Over the years my clients have included:
